Transcription – A Flexible Job

The flexibility of a Transcription job is that one can do this job suitable to their individual requirements, i.e. an individual can choose the working hours or how much transcription work he or she can do. All you will be required to do is have Microsoft Word or other such applications (see Tips)

Because of the power of the Internet, the location of the transcriber hardly matters these days and a person located anywhere in the world can accept a transcription job from an employer situated across the seas. Work can be sent online and after finishing can be submitted online. You can just sit in your bedroom or study, and finish the whole job, instead of having to get dressed and drive or commute to get to the office. As you get used to the job, your typing speed will increase and you will get more comfortable with decoding what you hear.

As a part time job, it is ideal for those who do not have full time jobs. Many students who need to earn money to pay their way through college, individuals who would otherwise have been jobless due to limited skill sets, housewives or retirees with time on their hands, have got freelance jobs as transcribers in this field.

Although the pay is good, the job itself is monotonous, yet it gives you the comfort of working from home. If you are looking for a home based job and have no concerns for a monotonous job then this transcription career is the right one for you.

What is a Home-based Freelance Transcriber?

Transcribing is necessary for any business in which text is needed to help clarify a recording. Recorded audios need to be transcribed – that is, the spoken words need to be typed up.

As a transcriber, you do need to be a fairly decent typist (about 65 or more words per minute), be able to edit your work for spelling and grammar errors and that’s about it.

A transcriber that works from home will more than likely provide their services to those that are looking to have things like teleconferences or interviews transcribed. As a transcriber you can make a decent income if you want to. It’s all about putting time and effort. You won’t become rich overnight, but eventually you can make a nice part-time income.

1) Good typing skills (Test out your skills below)
